Jackie Chan to donate entire fortune to charity, leaves nothing to son

BEIJING: Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan revealed that he would donate all his assets to charity during an awards ceremony in Beijing on Thursday and would not leave a cent for his son, singer Jaycee Chan, reported Chinese media.

Chan, who already willed half his fortune to charity, expressed Thursday that his son will get nothing after he passes away.

"If he is capable, he can make his own money.

"If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money," said Chan.

Although the younger Chan received an award that night, his father was still not satisfied and regretted not pushing him to greater heights.

"I really regret not sending him into the army in the past, to give him more experience and temper his character," the 56-year-old star said.

He also took the opportunity to comment on recent rumours of his death in the tabloids, which had left the people around him in a tizzy.

"I am not dead, though I am so busy that I may get worked to death," said Chan. "I wish the media would report more on public service and charity news instead of gossip. It is of much greater value."

"Even Will Smith (Chan's Hollywood actor friend) was fooled [by the fake reports] and mourned my passing on the Internet."

Jaycee Chan also became extremely worried after hearing about the false reports and called his father just to make sure.

"My dad scolded me 'Do you wish I were dead?' That was when I knew it was all false," said the younger Chan.

what an asshole

Probably realized that the kid turned out an asshole and he didn't learn the values that he was brought up on. Which is his own downfall as a parent, but he probably thinks that just giving him his fortune would mean he could probably freeload for the rest of his life, meaning he would never learn those values at all. So it makes sense, make him work hard, grow up and learn some responsibility and not live off his dad. I don't think someone giving away their entire fortune to charity can be seen as them being an asshole though whichever way you look at it xD

it's not just the money
the son is a successful singer and that's a lot more than most parents get
also saying to your son "do you wish I were dead?" when he's ringing up to make sure he's ok.. also pretty dick

didn't see his precious friend will smith actually bother to check? nor does it sound like he's bad mouthing anyone else who believed the tabloids..

just a lot of trying to make his son make up for his own mistakes, which is fine to a degree.. but he's not a failure or anything.. just not as successful as Jackie Fuccking Chan.. who is what? only the 2nd martial artist to ever make it mainstream, and STILL about 10x larger than the 1st

that's like Michael Jackson bitching because his son isn't as successful as him.

and who said his son was an asshole?
If he is and I missed that sure, but not everyone has to join the army to build character.. hell sometimes ppl become shitty because of the army @_@

Well from the original article it seems he's more worried about the way he would use the money, and obviously doesn't seem to think he is as level-headed as he should be by his age. It's not about how successful he is/isn't. I just hope that his fortune gets put to good use. You also can't tell from an article like that how their family operates. Not being able to see how they function and get the "other side of the coin" it's hard to dismiss him as being rude. Even if there is a family feud, I think it's a selfless act to give it all to charity. I also think it's commendable that people can put others ahead of even family when it's for the greater good.
